MY STORY
Since I started woodturning about 10 years ago it has become my major tool of creative expression.
Every time I put the chisel into a block of wood it is the beginning of a new journey of discovery;
- not only is it the revealing of the inner beauty of the wood, but also the curiosity of how the
form and shape will develop.
I try to let the wood decide what the outcome will be. Form and shape, proportions and balance are determined by the properties of the wood; - colour, grain patterns (or lack thereof), hardness, knots, bark inclusions and “imperfections”, all influence the final object.
I believe this interaction between design and the very diverse properties of wood is fundamental to achieve a well balanced, elegant, natural ‘feel good’ appearance.
I strive for simplicity and am wary of any unnecessary decorations.
Depending on the wood, often my work expresses a sharp line or a delicate surface extruded to a thin edge; - these can be considered as signatures of my designs.
Other times I choose to celebrate natural features like knots, bark or cracked resin veins to tell part of the life story of the tree that provided the wood.
Every piece I create is unique and aimed to evoke an emotional urge to
touch and feel its natural beauty.
